The compass consist of a transparent plastic mainly rectangular base with a rounded edge against the hand, a magnifying lens, and a circular dial assembly with adjustable declination correction and a liquid damped compass needle. The compass is non-radio active, magnetic, unmounted, and suitable for field operations in extreme weather conditions.

Compass needle/card and protractor specifications
Protractor diameter:
59 mm
Primary direction scale:
On top of rotating protractor alligned with outer edge, DEGREES scale 0-360° clockwise with 2° resolution and a number every 20°.except when number swapped for cardinal marking. Diameter: 59 mm.
Secondary direction scale:
On top of rotating protractor against the compass capsule, MILS (Mil-radians) scale 0-6400' clockwise with 100' resolution and a number every 400' except when number is swapped for cardinal marking. Diameter: 50 mm.
Cardinal markings:
N, E, S, W on protractor
Magnetic balancing:
Global needle, The needle is independent of the magnetic inclination and functions at all earth magnetic field locations.
Needle design:
Red for north and black for south. The needle has a larger luminescent area in the north end and a small in the south end. The north end of the needle has two parallel red lines next to it to enable more precise alignment with the orienting arrow. The needle is slightly tilted to give room for thermal contraction in cold. The center of the needle is transparent and the damping shape of the needle is also transparent. The hub of the needle features a NdFeB ring shaped magnet.
Needle length:
36 mm
Needle movement damping method:
Non-freezing transparent liquid filled compass capsule with the absence of bubbles in the operating temperature range at sea level.
Compass capsule:
Hermetically sealed transparent PMMA capsule, diameter 44 mm.
Orienting arrow:
Red and black colored with luminescent dots next to it, located under rotating capsule.
Declination corection:
The angle between orienting arrow and orieting lines can be adjusted to compensate for declination. The angle is adjusted by turning a sprocket using a flat screw driver delivered on the lanyard. The declination correction scale is in degrees, with a two degrees resolution and is marked with a number every 20°. The declination correction scale extends 90° E(+) and W(-)
Protractor index:
Luminescent mark next to the protractor.
Clinometer
Clinometer feature:
Black weighted needle hanging from center of the compass capsule when the compass is kept vertically on its side. The declination adjustment scale works as the inclination scale when rotating the capsule so that S on the protractor points to the straight side that is downwards. The scale is read from the bottom side of the compass.
Clinometer scale:
Degrees 0-±90˚ with 2˚ resolution
Luminescent features
Luminescent material:
SrAl2O4
Compass Needle:
Area on the north end of the compass needle and a narrow line at the south end of the needle.
Orienting arrow:
Two dots, one on each side of the north end of the orienting indicator.
Protractor:
The material of the protractor under the directional scale prints is luminescent.
Protractor index:
Luminescent dot with a non luminescent index shape.
Direction of travel:
Luminescent dot on the center line close to the edge furthest away from the user.
Attachment
Lanyard:
1 m black IR non-reflective lanyard with wrist lock and declination adjustment tool.
